Swirling, layered, melodic synthesizer pieces... computerchemist puts a fresh, modern interpretation on the classic European Berlin School instrumental electronic sound. "more TD than TD." computerchemist is the ongoing solo project of Dave Pearson, who lives in Staffordshire, England. Over the last 25 years Dave's music has been strongly influenced by "classic" Berlin School performers such as Tangerine Dream (mostly from the '72-'86 period) and Klaus Schulze, as well as taking inspiration from newer, more contemporary musicians with a diversity ranging from The Mars Volta to Csaba Vedres. The album "atmospheric" was released in January 2007 to critical acclaim. Drawing heavily on the Berlin School sound, but interpreting it in a distinctly modern style, within its seven tracks it takes the listener on a fresh voyage of discovery, with each piece telling a very different story through the universal medium of music. Dave's comments about the album: "The title track "atmospheric" was inspired directly from the recordings of the Cluster-2 spacecraft, which listens to the earth's magnetic fields, translating the raw energy of particle impacts from the magnetosphere into audio making a truly ethereal sound. This research was performed by Prof. Gurnett at the University of Iowa and NASA, who has very kindly given me permission to use those sounds, which you can hear interwoven within the piece. Why did I do it? Well, when browsing cyberspace sometimes you come across something which truly moves you... and the fact that something as beautiful as the aurora could make music - literally out of thin air - it would have felt wrong to have missed it out. I worked on the album between June and December 2006 at my studio. All of the tracks were recorded, mixed and mastered using Cubase SX3 - all instruments are virtual VSTi apart from the bass and lead guitars. All of the drumming is played through customized Yamaha MIDI drum pads or from the master keyboard and is then sequenced." His next album, "icon one", is scheduled to be released sometime later this year in Q4/2007, on computerchemist's own label, terrainflight. In June 2007, a two hour special show dedicated to computerchemist's music was broadcast on Tecuan Radio, an internet radio station based in Mexico City. They played a world exclusive preview of "icon one" in addition to some tracks from "atmospheric" on their electronic music show "Después del Eclipse".
